Ford isn't making massive changes to its 2027 F-150 engines, but they're still a solid lineup. Here's what you can expect to see:
The 5.0-liter Coyote V8 is the only true V8 Ford offers for the 2027 model year, producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The Coyote has been around in various forms for years and is a reliable engine that offers excellent value and performance.

Finally, the basic engine for the 2027 model year is the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 which produces 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. This engine wasn't included on Ford's comparison chart, but it's still a good option for those shopping on a budget.
New V8 Engines For The 2027 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra
GM didn't just change its trucks' sheet metal and interiors, it replaced its bread-and-butter V8 engines. The old 5.3-liter has been replaced by a brand new 5.7-liter V8. This will remind many of the small block Chevrolet engines of old, which is something we'll no doubt hear more about as GM promises to continue using this new small block engine in future engines and different applications.

This 5.7-liter engine produces 402 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. Sitting above it in the hierarchy is the new 6.6-liter V8 which replaces the outgoing 6.2-liter. GM claims it is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 on offer across the segment, producing 481 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque.
For those who want a V8 engine but don't need the power, GM still offers two V8 options, the 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter. However, there are still two other options for buyers who would rather not have a V8 engine. The 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder is available with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, and the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel is a unique option for the half-ton segment that doesn't have competition from other manufacturers.
How The Numbers Stack Up
When looking at the numbers it's easy to see what is similar and what stands out. On paper, Ford's 5.0-liter and GM's 5.7-liter engines are right on par with each other in terms of horsepower and torque. Neither company has much of an advantage over the other when it comes to base V8 engines, it really is a matter of preference based on what pound-feet you value more.
However, if you go up to GM's larger 6.6-liter engine you'll have more power than any Ford gas engine. Ford's closest competitor on torque is actually the EcoBoost V6, which has similar torque figures to GM's 6.6-liter V8, even though the Ford's engine is significantly smaller. Speaking of torque, we should also address towing capacity.
GM's 5.7-liter engines can tow a bit more than Ford's EcoBoost V6, about 200 additional pounds which puts the maximum towing rating just shy of 13,700-lbs compared to Ford's 13,500-lbs. When it comes to payload capacity, it's the Fords that have the slight edge with their EcoBoost V6 as their maximum payload rating of 2,175-lbs slightly exceeds GM's V8's maximum of about 2,170-lbs, again by just a couple of pounds.

What Else Is Changing On The 2027 F-150
As mentioned above, the 2027 F-150 gets some design updates for several models. The XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims all get fresh front grille styles and wheel designs to keep things looking new. It also looks as if the off-road focused Tremor trim will get a new standard equipment package, and the performance-focused Raptor model will get a more affordable entry-level configuration, although the trims will also have less standard equipment.
What This Means If You're Shopping Internationally
If you're outside of North America and want to buy one of these trucks, there are a few things to know. The F-150 is officially sold in Mexico, where it has a lot of popularity, and is also available in specialist importers and right-hand drive conversion companies in countries and regions like Australia and the Middle East, such as the United Arab Emirates, where American pickups have a lot of popularity. The same goes for the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, with official sales in North America and Mexico, and grey market or converted imports for enthusiasts elsewhere. In the UK, both of these trucks are niche imports, so buyers there typically go through specialist dealers.
Neither of these companies have an overwhelming advantage over the other. While Ford's V6 options continue to punch above their weight in terms of torque and payload, GM's new 6.6-liter V8 easily dwarfs Ford's gas engines in terms of horsepower. If the numbers are what matter most to you, then GM wins out. However, if you prefer a well-rounded option with excellent torque from a smaller engine, Ford still has the superior F-150.
