The New BMW 7 Series is the Result of a Huge Innovation Leap
At the end of the production of the new BMW 7 Series at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany, there is a first in the company’s 120-year history: for the first time in the history of the company, BMW is integrating technologies from the Neue Klasse into a series car. This is because the innovations from the “New Class” will also be used in 40 different models from the end of 2027.
So what makes this car special?
Technology from the Neue Klasse
For the first time ever, technologies from the Neue Klasse – a future-oriented project that will see the development of an entire model series – are being integrated into a BMW series vehicle. The new BMW 7 Series thus offers a preview of the future: it already has numerous innovations from the Neue Klasse on board, including a new electronics architecture, a transparent display extending over the windscreen and extended display variants for the rear seats, and a “Symbiotic Drive” driver assistance system.
More range, shorter charging times
In particular, the electric variant of the new BMW 7 Series, the BMW i7 60 xDrive, is characterised by a range of up to 727 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. With the new sixth-generation battery cells, it can also be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 28 minutes.
Individualisation as standard
With more than 500 exterior paint colours and countless combinations, the new BMW 7 Series offers a wide range of personalisation options for the outside. In combination with the numerous equipment and material options, there are around 700 combinations for individualising the inside – the most in the history of the 7 Series.
A work of art – produced with the help of robots and humans
The wide range of variants makes the car challenging to put together. However, the BMW Group combines innovative automation and manual precision to meet this challenge. For example, the new paintwork with its innovative combination of matte and glossy black is a real unique selling point. It took two and a half years of development to create the special paint finish. Over 4,500 minutes, each car is worked on with a high degree of manual precision. In particular, the leather trim and interior design are of outstanding quality: while AI-controlled 3D sewing robots work on the dashboard, trained employees finish the car’s interior.
Based on the same platform as the 5 Series and iX – a versatile production concept
The new BMW 7 Series is being produced on the same production line as the BMW 5 Series and BMW iX. It thus sets new standards in terms of flexibility: petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants are being produced in an innovative mix on this line.
Sustainability – from sunshine to biomass
At the BMW Dingolfing plant, renewable energy is being used even more intensively: the new photovoltaic system on the roof of the factory generates almost 11 MWp of electricity. In addition, a new biomass heating plant provides a further 100,000 MWh of renewable energy, covering about half of the heat requirement of the factory.
Highest quality – even in the test drive
All new BMW 7 Series cars are subjected to extensive automated and AI-supported tests as well as a final test drive on the test track by qualified BMW employees to ensure the highest quality.
Conclusion
The new BMW 7 Series combines the classic luxury class with visionary technology. With its numerous innovations and individualisation options, it sets new standards in terms of comfort and sustainability. Not least thanks to its electric drive variant, which can achieve a range of up to 727 kilometres on a single charge, it is a real flagship for the future.
